Travel & Tourism

East Africa aims to be among the top ten long- haul tourist destinations in the world offering high end, diverse and distinctive visitor experience. Tourism is one of East Africa’s leading foreign exchange earner and third largest contributor to the GDP after agriculture and manufacturing.

The sector has been growing fast as a result of various factors such as  iberalization, diversification of tourist markets and continued Government support and commitment to providing an enabling environment, coupled with successful tourism promotion and political stability.

Tourism, which is East Africa’s third largest foreign exchange earner, is a potential growth area that has significant investment opportunities in conferencing, eco-friendly tourism in the parks and cruise ship tourism. There is need to identify other tourist attractions besides the national parks, game reserves and the coast.

In order to extend the length of stay of visitors to the national parks in East Africa, the development of “resorts” within the parks is being promoted. Participation in such investment ventures is encouraged by the Government in order to exploit the tourism potential in these areas and continue to diversify tourism.

Potential investors can take full advantage of these opportunities through direct investments or joint-ventures with East African entrepreneurs. Opportunities also exist in this sector in the construction of tourist hotels and game lodges all over the country. Various concepts for tourism development are also available
